The government is planning to overhaul traffic management at Sydney’s busiest intersection, the Princes Highway.
The move is a major overhaul of a network of roads that was built by successive Australian governments.
But experts warn that the changes will mean traffic flows will remain at a level of low mobility, high rates of injuries and even deaths.

The Princes Highway has witnessed increased congestion as drivers have to take on extra and more dangerous journeys.
In the 1990s, traffic was one of the lowest in Sydney and the city had to be built around the interchange.
But there have been changes to the traffic laws and a few years ago the Princes Highway was closed to buses due to lack of traffic coming through.
In 2012, Transport Minister Mark Bailey, along with several Ministers, including State Opposi바카라tion Leader Lawrence Springborg, presented recommendations for a new interchange across the Princes Highway.
“It is a big project to change some of the traffic laws on the road network,” Mr Shearer said.
The new traffic management area will take place in sections of the Princes Highway from the end of the Mainline Road north to the end of Mainline Drive, and at the corner of Princes Highway and East Sturt Road.
The area is meant to improve “the quality and the visibility” of traffic along the Princes Highway, he said.
On the East Sturt Road, about 90 per cent of the traffic is on private motor vehicles, but a smaller percentage of the vehicle traffic is traffic from private motor vehicles coming into the traffic flow area.
“The government wants this to be the greatest part of the Princes Highway, just north of Mainline Drive,” Mr Shearer said.
The intersection to be upgraded will become a dedicated traffic management area, separate from the Princes Highway.
